A man had two sons whom he sent into a city. “Come back in three days and tell me what you found. We are considering moving to that city and I want to know what you think of it.”
“Study the people . . . the traffic . . . the economy . . . the social scene . . . the business climate . . . the attitude . . . the values. Determine what the people are like—driven? Helpful? Related? Busy? Friendly? Money-hungry? Nice? Truthful? Optimistic? Discouraged? Be back in three days, even if your research is not complete.”
Three days later, son # 1 came back. “Dad, the people are bad, drugs are a problem, discouragement is rampant, politicians are dishonest, and we should not move there.” So said son # 1.
Three days later, son # 2 also came back. “Dad this is a good place. People are friendly and helpful. There are many flowers in this city. There are lawns, and parks and pleasant spaces. A river flows through town. It is clean. Children play outside—it is safe. We should invest there and move there.”
The butler who was listening said to the father, “One of your sons is lying.”
“No,” the father said, “Each found what he was looking for.”
And that’s how it is in life—we find what we are looking for. Some find God, others do not see His footprints or fingerprints. Ask God to help you “see.”
